Superintelligence (SI): What It Means for Your Dealership
MUDD Team10/7/20265 min read
The short answer: Super Intelligence (SI) is the federal government's new name for artificial intelligence. Executive Order 14434, signed September 29, 2026, tells federal agencies to say "SI" instead of "AI." The order gives SI the same legal definition as AI, so the technology itself did not change overnight. What changed is the attention, and the pace. For car dealers, SI is the same toolset that already powers the best automotive marketing: sharper targeting, faster creative, always-on lead response and clearer reporting.
Key takeaways for dealers
SI = AI, renamed. The executive order ties SI to the existing legal definition of artificial intelligence.
It is not science-fiction "superintelligence." That term describes a hypothetical AI smarter than any human. The federal label covers today's tools.
The industry is moving faster. Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence the same day.
The dealer playbook hasn't changed, it has sped up. Stores that use SI where it reaches real in-market buyers will pull ahead.
Protect your name. Registrations of .si web addresses jumped 2,199% in September. Check whether your dealership's .si domain is still available.
What happened: the AI-to-SI timeline
In two weeks, "SI" went from a social media post to federal policy and an industry pledge.
Daily .si domain registrations hit roughly 11,000 on Sept 30, with nearly 20,000 more in the first two days of October.
46,066 new .si domains were registered, up 2,199% from August. .si is Slovenia’s country code.
The White House Accord on Super Intelligence is signed by leaders of Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI. It is a voluntary, one-page safety commitment.
President Trump signs Executive Order 14434, “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.” Federal agencies must use “SI” in place of “AI” in non-statutory documents.
The President calls for “superintelligence” over “artificial intelligence” in remarks at the UN General Assembly.
The rename is first floated on Truth Social.
What SI is, and what it isn't
SI is a new label for familiar technology. The executive order defines Super Intelligence using the same federal definition of artificial intelligence already in law. The chatbots, predictive models and generative tools dealers use today all fall under it.
SI is not "superintelligence" in the research sense. Among AI researchers, superintelligence means a hypothetical system that outthinks the brightest humans at almost everything. No one has built that. Expect the two meanings to get blended in headlines, vendor pitches and OEM decks for a while.
SI is not a new law for your store. The order covers federal agency communications. It does not change advertising rules, FTC guidance or privacy obligations that apply to dealership marketing.
Why it still matters to dealers
Names shape budgets. When the federal government, six leading AI developers and the press all start saying "SI" in the same week, it accelerates investment and attention. Your OEM, your DMS provider and every vendor in your inbox will start using the word. Some will mean real capability. Some will mean a new label on an old product.
That is where an experienced agency earns its fee. Mudd Advertising has been automotive-only for 45 years and has served more than 10,000 dealers. We have watched broadcast, cable, the web, search, social and programmatic each arrive with the same promise. The dealers who won each time were not the ones who adopted the buzzword first. They were the ones who put the new tool to work where it moved inventory.
Four places SI is already selling cars
1. Smarter targeting. SI models read signals that a shopper is in market, such as service history, equity position, lease maturity and online research behavior. That lets you spend on buyers near your store who are likely to purchase soon, not on anyone who happens to be online.
2. Faster creative. SI can produce many versions of an ad, from headlines to offers to images, then test and refresh them on a cycle of days instead of months. Your inventory changes daily; your creative can now keep up.
3. Always-on response. SI-powered website chat and lead follow-up answer shoppers at 11 p.m. on a Sunday, when many of them are actually shopping. The first dealer to respond with a useful answer often wins the appointment.
4. Clearer reporting. SI can connect ad spend to sold units across channels, so you see which dollars are selling cars and which are only producing clicks.
What SI doesn't change
Shoppers still buy from stores they trust, at a fair price, with a car on the lot. Advertising to real, verified people is still the key to growing market share. SI can start the conversation. Your people, your inventory and your reputation still close the deal. Any vendor who tells you otherwise is selling the label.
What dealers should do now
Audit what you already have. Many dealers already pay for SI-powered tools inside their CRM, chat or ad platforms and don't use them fully. Start there before buying anything new.
Ask every vendor one question: "What does your SI actually do, and how do you measure it in sold units?" A clear answer is a good sign. A vague one is your answer.
Tie SI to a business result. Pick one measurable goal, such as cost per sale, lead response time or conquest share, and judge every SI tool against it.
Keep compliance in the loop. SI-generated ads and chat responses still have to meet FTC, state and OEM advertising rules. Have a human review offers and disclosures.
Secure your .si domain. The .si registry has warned brand owners to act early. Check whether yourdealershipname.si is available and point it to your main site, so no one else can claim it.

Super Intelligence, or SI, is the US federal government's new term for artificial intelligence. Executive Order 14434, signed September 29, 2026, directs federal agencies to use "SI" instead of "AI" in official communications. It uses the same legal definition as artificial intelligence.
Is SI different from AI?
No. Under the executive order, SI covers the same technologies as AI. The name changed; the technology did not. SI is also different from "superintelligence" as researchers use it, which describes a hypothetical AI that surpasses human intelligence across nearly all tasks.
Do car dealerships have to start calling it SI?
No. The order applies to federal executive branch agencies only. Dealers, OEMs and agencies can use either term. Expect to see SI more often in government, vendor and OEM materials going forward.
How can car dealers use SI in marketing?
Dealers their agencies use SI for four main jobs: targeting in-market buyers near the store, producing and testing ad creative faster, answering website chats and leads around the clock, and connecting ad spend to sold units in reporting.
What is the White House Accord on Super Intelligence?
It is a voluntary, one-page safety commitment signed September 29, 2026, by President Trump and leaders of Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI. It calls for internal controls, oversight and independent audits of advanced AI models. It does not regulate dealership marketing.
Why are people registering .si domains?
.si is Slovenia's country-code domain, and it matches the new SI abbreviation. New .si registrations rose 2,199% in September 2026, to 46,066. Much of the demand is speculative, so dealers may want to secure their own name before someone else does.
What should a dealer do about SI right now?
Audit the SI tools you already pay for, ask vendors how their SI is measured in sold units, tie any new tool to one business goal, keep humans reviewing offers for compliance, and register your dealership's .si domain.
Does Mudd Advertising use SI?
Yes. Mudd Advertising, an automotive-only agency in Cedar Falls, Iowa, uses SI to produce eye-popping creative, identify and target buyers, provide more efficient customer follow-up for dealers and fine-tune existing strategies to bring more buyers to dealers' lots. Ask your Mudd representative for an SI review of your current marketing.
