Powersports dealers need a steady supply of quality pre-owned inventory. They also need to turn service customers into buyers and stay top of mind with riders who aren't actively shopping. Generic promotional mail rarely does any of that. It looks like every other offer in the mailbox, and riders tend to toss it before reading.
Mudd Advertising built a hand-addressed, handwritten-style letter from the dealership's General Manager. It spoke to each rider personally, referenced the exact bike they owned, and gave them a clear reason to act now: a buyer was waiting for a bike like theirs, and the dealer was ready to make a strong offer, maybe even a straight buyout. Paired with a parts department coupon and a new 2026 Road Glide feature, the piece gave riders several ways to engage, whether they wanted to trade up, sell outright, or just bring their bike in. Mudd then matched every resulting sale against the mail list. That turned the response into verified, attributable results: sales, trade-ins, and service visits the dealership could measure.
The results were strong across the board. The campaign produced 18 verified sales, a 0.3% mail-to-sale rate and more than double the industry standard for direct mail. Of those buyers, 10 were returning customers, 6 had only ever serviced with the dealership and were buying from them for the first time, and 2 were fresh conquest sales. The dealer also took in 7 trade-ins and outright purchases, adding pre-owned inventory to flip. The standout stat came from the service drive: 75 recipients booked service after getting the mailer. That builds loyalty and future sales opportunities long after the campaign ends.
"75 people got the mailer and then serviced with them….that is off the Richter-Scale! Not only is that a great stat, but it will only lead to good things down the road for them as well!"
